I just bought an 11ft fishing rod to fish off the beach. My rig keeps snapping.?

Im using a fish finder rig with a 6oz sinker, which works great off the surf with smaller rods. Its weird, using monofilament and it seems to just fray and shred and snap about 10 inches from the hook. Why is this happening? The line keeps doing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My best guess would be a cracked guide or tip… Analyze all the guides (specifically the insides) and look for tiny cracks. Even the smalles little crack will do this to your line. They are easily repairable if you find a cracked guide/tip.

Mono line doe snot do well with heavy wiehgts… even if the mono line is heavy itself.. there is a HIGH amount of stretch in the line and that is causing a weak spot when it stretches during the cast. I would suggest getting heavy braid line (Spider wire ultra cast ) or the new invisabraid will work great!

And use a leader, I would suggest a fluorocarbon leader.. There is no stretch in Flouro and it holds up way better than Mono ever could.

          good Luck

When surf casting, always use a shock leader. It does exactly what it name implies, it takes the shock of the heavy weight when cast. Depending on the weight you are casting the leader will have to be a much larger line class than the line on your reel. Try a heavy shock leader, that should solve the problem.
            Good luck.

You may want to look at the guides on your rod, one of them may be cracked or broken. I would also recommend using braided line Pro line works great, or maybe even fluorocarbon. It would also be a good idea to fish with a steel leeder.

it could be a missing crack in the the tip of the line, you should b able get it fixed a a tackle shop or something, you could also try using braid 100 to 75 should be fine, or heaver mono (ex. 20 to 30lb), but the line will still stretch witch can weaken line. it could also be the sinkers, sometimes the part were you pass the line trough can be sharp and when the sinker slides on the line in frays it.
